ABOUT GLA:D IRELAND

Good Living with osteoArthritis Denmark (GLA:D) was brought to Ireland with a purpose to implement evidence-based care for osteoarthritis in Ireland and is licensed to the University of Limerick. This initiative is part of a Health Research Board (HRB) funded project called IMPACT – IMPlementation of osteoArthritis Clinical guidelines Together. The first training course for GLA:D Ireland physiotherapists was delivered by Ewa Roos and Sarah Kroman at the University of Limerick in October 2021.

Aims of GLA:D

1. Equal access for all people with osteoarthritis to evidence-based exercise and education, irrespective of place of residence and financial situation.
2. Surgery is indicated only when nonoperative treatment fails

Objectives of the IMPACT Project

What is the research? The IMPACT project is bringing together research, clinician and patient stakeholders to make sure clinical guidelines for osteoarthritis are being implemented nationally. It will determine if GLA:D can be implemented effectively in the public and private Irish healthcare setting. It will:
•    Identify barriers and develop an implementation strategy for each health setting,
•    Evaluate implementation and patient-reported health outcomes at 3-, and 12-months follow-up,
•    Evaluate the cost-effectiveness of the programme
